What's Happening

AOMAM has a new look - and a new presence

AOMAM has a new look! After 3 years of brainstorming, researching and consulting with experts in the world of branding and identity systems, AOMAM is proud to present a fresh, new face and a dynamic new presence. As a profession both grounded in tradition and powerfully emerging, the goal of rebranding has been to maintain the value and integrity of Oriental medicine while positioning the AOM profession and AOMAM as responsive, approachable and pertinent in today's world.

The first design to be introduced was a new logo - a bright yellow acupuncture sun rising in the east - which has appeared on the cover of the AOMAM Directory and the Meridian. Additions now include a completely redesigned website; a colorful brochure, which can be purchased for use by individual practitioners; and an eye-catching tabletop display available for AOMAM events or to be checked out by members to use in their marketing and promotion efforts.

Equal Access to Acupuncture Act Passed

On May 7, 2009, Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed the Equal Access to Acupuncture Act and Edith R. Davis Memorial. This bill requires all health care policies that claim to cover acupuncture to reimburse licensed acupuncturists for procedures performed within their scope of practice. In the past, some plans have only allowed reimbursement to chiropractors and medical physicians, providers who have frequently received a small percentage of the training required by Licensed Acupuncturist. Kimberly Fritz, president of AOMAM, stated, "This new law provides the public with another quality choice for their care and provides the Oriental medicine profession equal recognition under these plans."

This bill was named for the late Edith Davis, who was a pioneer in acupuncture and Oriental medicine in Minnesota.
